Empower You
Happy New Year!!!! Welcome to 2019!!!
And if I hear “New year, new you” one more time I might scream!
I absolutely despise that saying!
It gives me PTSD for all the years of ramping up to each year’s diet fail. I have been traumatized by the diet industry since I was 10 years old.
The ads, images, products, commercials, and salespeople tell us that we couldn’t control ourselves over the holidays and now we have to lose that annoying fat.
They’d ask, “You want to be thin, don’t you?”
I used to want to scream a “HELL YES!”
I thought Thin would fix all my problems because FAT is clearly the enemy. I now realize that the diet industry’s ads, images, products, commercials, and salespeople are the problem.
They depend on people feeling like shit and a need to fix our broken fat selves in order to live our best lives.
BULLSHIT!
Live Your Best Life – Right Now!
We don’t have to be thin to live our best lives.
We live our best lives when we DECIDE that now is the time to stop waiting to live our best lives.
Now is the time to stop waging war on our bodies in an effort to achieve some airbrushed, unrealistic fantasy.
Now is the time to dream big, get clarity, and create a path towards our destiny and purpose!
New Year, New You?
The phrase “New year, new you” became a battle cry for “You aren’t good enough the way you are, and in order to be acceptable, you have to join a gym, work out 3 hours a day, and eat next to nothing. Oh, and don’t forget to buy lots of new workout clothes and equipment.”
And yes, I willingly and excitedly jumped on the opportunity to finally lose the weight. I felt like if I could fit in and be acceptable, then I wouldn’t stand out.
But I did stand out.
I wish I had heard the Dr. Seuss quote, “Why fit in when you were born to stand out?” That could have been helpful to me back in the day. Although, in all fairness to Dr. Seuss … I would have probably discounted it or ignored it.
The negative stuff is easier to believe.
Fuck that!
New Year – Same You!
I’m done with believing the negative stuff. I’m done believing that I’m not good enough and that I’m not worthy.
I am declaring 2019 the year of Empowerment!
New year, same you!
The only thing that’s better about it is that you’re ready to claim your greatness!
If you want to lose weight or start working out because you want to feel strong – go for it! But don’t do it because of all the goddamn commercials, magazines, and people around you who tell you to. Do it from a place of peace and love – and for yourself!
Do you want to improve your relationship or find a great relationship? Let’s do it! But don’t do it because you want to get your mom off your back or to stop your partner from nagging you! DO it because you’re ready, and you want to find someone to share your life with.
You want a promotion? Done! Step into the next level of your career, but don’t do it because you feel like you have to. Do it because you love a challenge, and you want to work your butt off to achieve greatness!
This is your year! This is my year!
This is our year of EMPOWERMENT!
How to Have an EMPOWERED 2019
Say no to what doesn’t light you up!
Say yes to shit that scares you!
Show up for yourself!
– Clarity – check!
– Purpose – check!
– Actionable steps – check!
– Claiming your next priority – check!
Show up!
Everyone one will show up differently. What’s showing up for me may be different for you – and that’s totally perfect!
You do you.
Over the past few years, I’ve learned that dieting doesn’t work for me. You can’t hate yourself thin … and trust me, I’ve tried.
You can only love yourself healthy … and it is the opposite of everything we’ve ever been taught.
Confidence, self-esteem, and positive body image are at the core of everything you want.
And I’m here to help you get exactly you want.
What’s Next and What Now…
Every week this month, I will be doing a podcast to help you find what you love, how to show up and get it, and how to learn to love yourself and your body so you can build courage and confidence.
Your challenge for this week: Start dreaming about your vision board … start looking for images that make you feel happy, free, elated, or whatever positive feelings you desire. Cut out the images or print them out and begin to collect what sets your soul on fire.
I’ll talk more next week about putting together your vision board. This week is for noticing what feels amazing and what doesn’t; the glue, the tape, and the poster board are all for next week.
xoxo,
Shawna
